Our promises
Sustainably grown
DOOR works towards horticulture that is both sustainable and fit for the future. We are constantly taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment.
Our growers seek to use alternative energy sources such as geothermal energy or residual heat in order to reduce the use of natural gas. They also strive to use water as economically and efficiently as possible. Rainwater is collected in water basins and used to water the plants. 100% of the irrigation water is recirculated and all nutrients are reused. This way of managing water means plants get exactly the right amount of water they need.
To ward off pests and diseases, all growers use biological crop protection methods, such as the use of natural enemies. Working closely with scientists, a lot of attention is paid to creating a strong root system to produce vital and resilient crops.
We are also on track to achieve a 100% recycling rate for all waste streams. All waste is separated and recycled when it comes to clearing out the greenhouse. Furthermore, we look for new markets for imperfect products by drying or grilling the product.
